June 16 primary runoff in north Alabama: Here’s who is on the ballot

It will be business as usual for north Alabama voters during the June 16 runoff election.

Voters in Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties are not affected by the redistricting effort that changed Alabama’s congressional district map. The 5th Congressional District lines did not change and the results from May 19’s primary election were certified.

The Democratic race to name a challenger to Republican U.S. Rep. Dale Strong in the Nov. 3 general election will be one of the races on the runoff ballot. Plumber and businessman Andrew Sneed is facing educator Candice Duvieilh in the runoff.


Republican voters in all three counties will be casting their ballots in the U.S. Senate race between Congressman Barry Moore and former U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, the lieutenant governor’s race between Secretary of State Wes Allen and former state party chairman John Wahl and the attorney general’s race between Assistant Attorney General Katherine Robinson and former State Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell.

Democrats in all three counties will be choosing their U.S. Senate nominee in the race between Everett Wess and Dakarai Larriett.


Local races

Republican voters in Limestone, Madison and DeKalb counties will be choosing their nominee in the District 8 State School Board race. Emily Jones is facing William Matthews in the runoff. The seat is currently held by Republican Wayne Reynolds, who is retiring.

Democratic voters in western Madison County and eastern Limestone County will choosing their nominee for the District 2 State Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Tom Butler. Rudolph Drake and Alex House are facing off in the runoff. The winner will face Republican John Roberts in the general election. Roberts was unopposed during the primary.


Blake White and Vaughn Goodwin will be facing off in the Republican runoff in Morgan County in the County Commission District 1 race.

John Holley and Mark McCurry will be facing off in the Republican revenue commissioner race in Morgan County. Republican Revenue Commissioner Amanda Scott is retiring.
